How much memory do I need?
Choosing what to buy when upgrading your system memory is often a confusing process. Think of purchasing a memory upgrade as a two step process.
Step 1: Identify what Type of Memory is compatable with your particular desktop, laptop, printer, or other device.
GOOD NEWS! If you have reached this page, most likely you have already completed this first step and you are halfway there. Any of the RAM modules listed on the Product Tab are compatible with your HP Compaq HP Compaq Business Desktop dc5800 (SFF, MT).
Step 2: Choose which RAM module to buy.
The HP Compaq HP Compaq Business Desktop dc5800 (SFF, MT) uses PC2-6400 type memory and usually ships from HP Compaq with 512MB/1GB/2GB of RAM. The HP Compaq Business Desktop dc5800 (SFF, MT) supports up to 8GB of RAM. Maximizing your system memory will allow your HP Compaq Business Desktop to operate as fast as possible and offer the most productive environment.
RAM modules must be installed in special locations on the motherboard called Sockets. These memory sockets are what hold the RAM module in place and can range from 1 to 16 or more. Typically you will see 2x512MB or 2x256MB signifying you are purchasing 2 units of 512MB RAM modules or 2 units of 256MB RAM modules, respectively.
