How much memory do I need?

Choosing what to buy when upgrading your system memory is often a confusing process. Think of purchasing a memory upgrade as a two step process.

Step 1: Identify what Type of Memory is compatable with your particular desktop, laptop, printer, or other device.

GOOD NEWS! If you have reached this page, most likely you have already completed this first step and you are halfway there. Any of the RAM modules listed on the Product Tab are compatible with your IBM PS/1 Investor 2155-P84.

Step 2: Choose which RAM module to buy.

The IBM PS/1 Investor 2155-P84 uses 60ns type memory and usually ships from IBM with 4/8MB of RAM. The PS/1 Investor 2155-P84 supports up to 64MB of RAM. Maximizing your system memory will allow your PS/1 Investor to operate as fast as possible and offer the most productive environment.

RAM modules must be installed in special locations on the motherboard called Sockets. These memory sockets are what hold the RAM module in place and can range from 1 to 16 or more. Banks consist of a group of 1 or more sockets. A system can have 1 or more of these banks of sockets. If a system has more than 1 socket in a bank, a Kit must be purchased for that bank. A kit is simply more than one, usually 2 or 4, like RAM modules. All sockets in a bank must be filled, and for such systems we sell memory in a kit. Typically you will see 2x512MB or 2x256MB signifying you are purchasing 2 units of 512MB RAM modules or 2 units of 256MB RAM modules, respectively.

We recommend you purchase the largest capacity RAM module each time you purchase memory. The reason for this is if you decide to upgrade again later and all your memory sockets are filled, you will not need to discard the already installed lower capacity memory.
