How much memory do I need?
Choosing what to buy when upgrading your system memory is often a confusing process. Think of purchasing a memory upgrade as a two step process.
Step 1: Identify what Type of Memory is compatable with your particular desktop, laptop, printer, or other device.

Step 2: Choose which RAM module to buy.
The IBM RS/6000 POWERstation/POWERserver 530 uses 60ns type memory and usually ships from IBM with 32MB of RAM. The RS/6000 POWERstation/POWERserver 530 supports up to 512MB of RAM. RAM modules must be installed in special locations on the motherboard called Sockets. These memory sockets are what hold the RAM module in place and can range from 1 to 16 or more. Banks consist of a group of 1 or more sockets. A system can have 1 or more of these banks of sockets. If a system has more than 1 socket in a bank, a Kit must be purchased for that bank.
